Ford Model A Modified Project Specifications/Detail List
Project based on a Real Hot Rods ‘A Modified' body and chassis with significant updates and refinements as outlined below. Project took 12 weeks to complete, just in time for the Goodguys PPG Nationals, Columbus, OH.
Chassis and Body Modifications:
- Steering box repositioned 1” forward, 1” up and 2” outboard to place pitman arm exit in rear, lower, hood side, eliminate preexisting body and hood cutaway and gain footwell space.
- Custom pitman arm: bored, cut and bent to minimize bump steer, bring drag link parallel to hairpin both in elevation and plan views.
- Modified Super Bell steering arm.
- Fabricated aluminum transmission tunnel maximizing footwell space, minimum cutaway for transmission in floor.
- Molded-in dashboard to body.
- Drilled bat wings, shock mount tabs, rear hairpin mounts, fuel tank straps, pitman arm, steering arms, exhaust hanger, rear frame cross member.
- Ground spindle forgings.
- Fabricated steel wiring harness and fuse block support under cowl.
- Fabricated steel dashboard/column drop support.
- Fabricated aluminum sub panel for control switches (key, lights, signals, horn).
- Fabricated aluminum battery box (small Miata battery).
- Filled and ground welds on exposed chassis sections.
- Door and rear panels upholstered with Rod Interiors materials by MS & C.
- SS 3/16” (-03) brake hard lines with all SS fittings and Earl's SS braided flex lines with clear protectant sleeving by MS & C.
- SS 3/8” (-06) fuel hard line by MS & C with Russell Endura fittings and Russell billet fuel filter.
- Shortened Speedway SS column with quick release hub and fabricated SS lower mounting base.
- Polished SS clevises on all hairpins.
- SS hood latches.
- All hardware stainless steel.
- All wiring harnesses sleeve covered with heat shrink binding and terminals by MS & C.

- Lobeck's 4 spoke Lakes steering wheel and low-profile center cap.
- Mullins 4” column drop offset mounted on dash boss.
- Wilwood Dynalite front disc brake system.
- Wilwood individual master cylinders F/R with swing pedal and balance bar.
- Ford 11” police rear drum brakes from Currie.
- GM 350 small block 300hp crate motor.
- Edelbrock performer manifold.
- Barry Grant Demon Jr. 525cfm vacuum secondary carburetor w/electric choke.
- Accel HEI distributor.
- Jeg's Prostart'r mini starter.
- Stewart Warner Wings gauges.
- Lokar tail mount shifter with 8-ball knob.
- Jeg's TH350 short tail transmission.
- Coleman steel custom driveshaft and transmission yoke.
- B&M Tork Master torque converter.
- MSD 8.5mm plug wires by MS & C.
- Wheel Vintiques 16X4 front Gennies and 16X6 rear Gennies.
- Wheel Vintiques hot rod trim rings and '46 Ford center caps.
- Coker Firestone vintage bias-ply tires, 4.50 F, 7.50 R.
- Walker radiator.
- Currie Ford 9” rearend housing with Strange axles and 3.25 ring & pinion by MS & C.
- Speedway friction shocks front and rear.
- Vintiques Model A headlights, taillights.
Additional craftsmanship:
- Fabricated 2.25” two into one 3” stainless steel exhaust system by MS & C with Magnaflow muffler and coated block hugger headers.
- Modified Glide bench seat, foams and cover with lifting bottom and reclining back set on spacers to allow seat back to recline under cowl lip for added cockpit space.
- Custom carpet sections fitted by MS & C.
- Gloss black chassis and red wheel powder coat by Industrial Special Powder Coatings in Delaware , OH.
- Chrome plating by Columbus Custom Plating.
- 2000 Audi TT Special Edition Nimbus Gray Pearl by Mullins Autobody.
- All fabrication, body prep, wiring, assembly, plumbing, engine and transmission by Metropolis Speed and Custom.
